You may not know this, but the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) has released new regulations concerning “truth in blogging’. It seems that bloggers have been receiving free merchandise or other “inducements” to give favorable reviews of products or services. The new rules require disclosure of any such occurrences.
As much as I might like free stuff, it doesn’t happen much around the Virtual Boatyard. I end up buying the stuff I need to do my projects. I do take every opportunity to get the best prices I can. I have a West Marine Port Supply card. I regularly shop Defender, Ebay and stop in every boat consignment store I come across. In rare cases, I have to buy directly from the manufacturer. Trust me, I’ll ask for a trade discount and some times get it.
Much of my stock-in-trade are Do-It-Yourself articles. If I can’t find the stuff for the projects in places retail customer shop, then it isn’t much of a project, is it? I tend not to cite prices in most articles because they change so often. But, rest assured, I had to buy it somewhere.
If I do get a “freebie”, I’ll let you know that it was free. But I also promise to give it a fair and honest trial if I do actually use it.
