just thought i'd chime in with some ideas i borrowed from my brewery. For a system that is reasonably clean (not cruddy) semi-regular flushing with "Star San" will keep your whole system sanitised and tasting good with very little time investment. 30sec of contact time is enough to sanitise. (no need to rinse but i still do). It can be purchased at home-brew stores, agricultural supply and over the internet.
At the beginning and towards the end of each season PBW(powdered brewery wash) run through the system will dissolve any crud away. And its biodegradeable! pumps and filters and seals still need to be maintained as normal but the whole system will last much longer using standard brewery cleaners and sanitisers every now and then. plus you wont poison yourself with nasty bleach etc.
