Replacing a Rotted Transom

A customer stopped by the boat store last week to ask about a project he was contemplating. He had been given an old Glastron outboard hull and was thinking about restoring it. One thing led to another and he mentioned that water was leaking from several holes in the transom. While we have talked about replacing decks and repairing fiberglass damage, replacing a transom hasn’t been covered here before. So here goes…

Somewhere slightly south of the great Susquehanna River and north of the Elizabeth River lies the town of Paradise Cove. It’s an old timey kind of place with the feel of a waterman’s town, although fishing, clamming and crabbing are no longer much of a livelihood around these parts. Folks around here do still have that independent spirit and a dislike for new things (and people).

Holding Tank Vents - Revisited

 Reader TJH wondered if it would be better to crisscross the vent lines to keep water from entering the tank in the event of a knockdown. A more likely event would be sewage draining overboard. Crisscrossing the lines as shown should prevent either scenario. Anyone see a flaw in this arrangement?

Trailer Stand Isometric Drawing
